BLAGOEVGRAD CITY OVERVIEW:

Blagoevgrad city is located in southwestern Bulgaria. Blagoevgrad population is about 70 thousand as of 2011. The city lies on the banks of the Blagoevgradska Bistritsa River.
Blagoevgrad is home of two universities:

The South-West University "Neofit Rilski"
The American University in Bulgaria - known as one of the best and most prestigious universities in Bulgaria.

Go skiing in Bansko during the winter

Bansko is a popular ski resort not only in Bulgaria, but also in Europe. Lots of expats and locals from all parts of Bulgaria come to ski during the winter season. The resort offers so many activities that can satisfy any taste and wants.

The amazing festival of "1000 people in traditional costumes in one place" happens in Razlog on the second day of Easter. This event held in Razlog reveals the folklore abundance and variety on the territory of the municipality. The festivals gathers more than a thousand people, dressed in traditional costumes in the very downtown of Razlog.

The Bulgarian national costumes are one of the major characteristics in the Bulgarian folklore, traditions, and music. Every region of the country has its traditional costumes with exclusive motives that cannot be found anywhere else.
When looking into the Bulgarian costumes, you need to understand that there is a certain code that has to be followed in the ornaments which in the past carried information about the family origin and history, as well as, for the specific region it originated from. Every Bulgarian costume has its own message and meaning.
Traditional costumes in Razlog are preserved and passed on from generation to generation. Costumes with 100 years of history are preserved in some homes in Razlog. The Red Church is Christian basilica partially preserved from the late Roman era. Dating back to the late 5th, early 6th century, the church stands near the town of Perushtitsa in western Plovdiv Province. The Church is a rare example of solid brick construction and the red colour of the bricks gave its name.

The Red Church was first excavated in 1915 by Bulgarian archaeologists but because of the World War any further research was delayed until 1921. Due to structural damage, the church was stabilized with wood scaffolding in 1985. In 2013, the site was reopened and the wooden scaffolding was replaced with metal beams.

DAY TRIP TO CHURCH OF “ST. TODOR”, BOBOSHEVO

The Church of “St. Todor” is located about 1.5 kilometers. north of Boboshevo, along the Struma river, on the left from the main road toward Kyustendil. It was built at the beginning of the 11th century, It is one of the few remaining religious monuments dating from the First Bulgarian Kingdom. The church contains some rare and beautiful frescoes, which date from the 14th century as the earlier layer has been destroyed.

The church is declared as a architectural-artistic monument of culture of national importance.

DAY TRIP TO POBITITE KAMANI

Pobiti Kamani, also known as the Stone Forest or the Stone Desert, is a rock phenomenon located near Varna. It is considered the only desert in Bulgaria and one of few found in Europe. The formations are mainly stone columns between 5 and 7 meters high and from 0.3 to 3 meters thick. There are a number of theories regarding the phenomenon's origin divided roughly into two groups: suggesting an organic or abiotic origin. According to the first, the formations are the result of coral activity, while the latter explain the phenomenon with the prismatic weathering and desertification of the rocks, the formation of sand and limestone concretions, or lower Eocene bubbling reefs.

Unique in the world, the area is now a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.
How to get there:
From Varna you can reach the Stone Forest :

By bus: Take bus number 43 from central bus station in Varna and get off the bus on the last station. There is the village Slunchevo and then you need to hike 1 km trail. Cost of the bust ticket is 2 leva.
By train: You can take a train from Central railway station Varna to the railway station Beloslav and then walk / bike to “South groups"- one of the main rock clusters of the Stone Forest.
By car: First, you drive on the road Vladislav Varnenchik towards the exit of the city that is at the roundabout. Driving straight ahead you pass by the village of Topola and the factory Devnia plast. After only 15 minutes driving and when you must be out of Varna, then you will see a sign “Stone Forest”. This landmark is on the road itself, you just need to turn off it and start your walk.

This list contains of three of the cult places that Sofia residents go to. These free activities for travelers are very popular among the locals especially in sunny weekends when many people enjoy the outdoor activities. Since Bulgaria has all the four seasons, you can basically do them almost whole year round.

HANG OUT AND HAVE A BEER AT THE NATIONAL THEATER IVAN VAZOV PARK

The small park in front of the National Theater “Ivan Vazov” is one the most popular tourist spots for photo shooting and one of the most popular meeting spots for locals in Sofia. The real charm of the garden has two faces. During the day is crowded with people. There are two playgrounds for children on the both ends of the park.
The alleys are filled with benches with people and in the middle, exactly at front of the main entrance of the theater is the fountain refreshing the summer air. The building of the National Theater Ivan Vazov is also really beautiful and it's worth it going in.
Usually, during the winters in this park there are "German" kiosks with hot red wine and sausages. It's a perfect place to hang out and have a 2 liter beer plastic bottle from the store(which is also something very unique which we haven't seen in any other country).

CENTRAL MARKET HALL (TSENTRALNI HALI) IN SOFIA

"Sofia Central Market Hall" (or the short name: Halite) is a commercial complex in downtown Sofia, on "Maria Luisa" bulevard, next to the intersection with St. Exarch Joseph. The builing is more than 100 years old and is one of the iconic models of the Bulgarian style "neo-byzantine" architecture of the early XX century. The facades are very rich in stone sculpture and other elements of architectural and artistic synthesis. "Central Sofia Market Hall" is the first modern covered market in Bulgaria. Due to its magnificent architecture in 1955, the building received the status of cultural monument of national importance.

In the area around the market is always busy, there are a lot of people walking around and the trafic is very hectic. Here are crossing the main boulevards in Sofia - "Maria Louisa" boulevard, "Dondukov" street, "Exarch Joseph" street and "Pirotska" street.

The market opens doors back in 1911 and became an important commercial area in the city center. About 1000 employees work in Halite and the commercial premises are located on 3 floors. There you can buy food, clothes, traditional bulgarian souvenirs, leather goods such as belts, purces and bags, meat, fish, milk products, fruit and vegetables. There is also food area where you can eat and drink. For every national holiday such as Easter, Christmas, New Year, there are special fairs organized in the market hall.
