SOZOPOL TRAVEL GUIDE - THINGS TO KNOW

Sozopol Travel Guide, Sozopol, Visit Sozopol, Sozopol clubs, Sozopol bars, Sozopol restaurant, Sozopol pub, Sozopol hotel, Sozopol house rent,
Sozopol is a lovely seaside resort with a rich history. It was founded in 7th century BC. Back then, it was a Greek town called Antheia. The name was changed to Apollo soon after, and over the years it came to become an important trade and naval center. The Byzantine, Bulgarian and Ottoman Empires have all ruled it at one point or another. Its Greek population is severely decimated now though; during the Balkan wars, the local Greeks were exchanged with Eastern Thrace Bulgarians.

Today, Sozopol’s tourism focuses mainly on its Old Town (romantic cobblestoned streets and cute old houses), its South Coast and its Archaeological museum and art gallery. The holy relics of Saint John the Baptist are were found in the nearby Saint Ivan (Saint John’s) Island; pilgrims from the world over come to see these. On the beaches, water-sport thrives - jet skiing, surfing, beach volleyball, boating, and fishing – it’s a casual but very charming set up. Not too far south is the Ropotamo Nature Reserve, which is very popular with birdies. A favorite activity that you must add to your vacation itinerary planner is to sail out to the nearby islands of Saint Ivan and Saint Peter.
